About us
We are an alternative building team based in Turkey, called Koluba (koluba.org) We essentially build with earth, straw and wood, usually housing in the countryside. We have worked with volunteers for years now, and it is partly thanks to them that our buildings have become reality. We are looking for people who want to perfect their building skills. Some past experience is required.
My place
The project we are currently working on is located near Mumcular, Bodrum.
Projects
This year's work will include a wooden kitchen unit insulated with pine needles and clay plastered, and a large wooden vault. Volunteers will be totally immersed in the construction process, working alongside the team and learning from the actual work on a daily basis. This can be physically demanding and we are looking for people under 40, with a high interest in craftsmanship. We see volunteers more as apprentices willing to learn the skills than free laborers. IMPORTANT: Applicants should already have some experience with wood and/or plastering. The minimum stay is 3 weeks. We might also accept helpers for kitchen work. Note: we cannot host pets.
Accommodation
Sanitaries are available, but volunteers have to camp with their own equipment. Access to a washing machine and WiFi.
Food
We provide three meals a day prepared by a cook, all fresh local products.
